Why Video is Your Next Big Opportunity

Everybody secretly wants to be a star. Even, or especially, those who won’t admit it.

According to leading tech company Cisco, video traffic will make up 82 per cent of all internet traffic by 2022, up from 75 per cent in 2017.

Nowadays, you don’t even need to be on the big screen to get seen. Mobile video may be small, but it’s just as mighty as the desktop. Cisco tipped mobile traffic to grow at a compounding annual growth rate of 46 per cent between 2017 and 2022. If double-digit growth isn’t convincing enough, internet video is probably even a bigger deal than it sounds:

“The implications of video growth are difficult to overstate,” claims Cisco. “With video growth, internet traffic is evolving from a relatively steady stream of traffic to a more dynamic traffic pattern.”

There are several types of videos you can create for your business. Start with three. If you’re a video newbie, consider product explainers, customer testimonials and telling your company story. That’s your video marketing starter kit.

Aim to stand out in a clever way with SMART video marketing. Here’s what that means:

  • Specific. Set a specific goal, such as capturing new leads, or generating buzz and becoming the business for those particular how-tos. 
  • Measurable. Work out how you will measure success, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
  • Achievable. Consider what may get in your way of achieving your goals. Could copycats derail your plans? Is money the issue?      
  • Relevant. Decide how and where this plays into your broader marketing plan. 
  • Time-related. Video is a changing game. Make sure you stick to a hard deadline that aligns with your strategy.
