How to Streamline with the Littlest Bit of IT (for the Non-IT Folk)

Streamline y our business with a little I.T.

Working for yourself doesn’t mean you should be working more hours in the day. Quite the opposite; you want to streamline business processes as much as possible, and one area this can be easily accomplished is in IT.

Here are three really (and I mean really) simple steps to start with.

1. Templates:

If you want something done, ask a busy person.
Benjamin Franklin

Don’t reinvent the wheel every time you start something new. Create templates for things you do often e.g. emails, documents and spreadsheets. This may take a little more time in the beginning, but it is a cheap investment in the long run.

2. Outsource:

Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it..
Dwight D. Eisenhower

Websites like Fiverr, Fourerr, Upwork, Freelancer and Gigbucks allow you to outsource many services such as logo design, document translation, and other business tasks which you don’t have the time to do yourself.

3. Have Reliable Backups:

Sometimes you will never know the value of something, until it becomes a memory.
Dr Seuss

Well, you’ve heard this one before.

Storing your data in the Cloud is an awesome backup as it is offsite and easily accessible. However, accessing videos and photo files might take some time to download so consider storing them locally on a hard drive as well for everyday use. Cloud companies backup their servers, but what if this is the only place you have stored a certain file and you delete it by accident?

Backups are necessary for all devices; both desktop and mobile. If you’re on the road all day and your phone is your office, make sure you have your phone and contacts backed up as often as your computer.

Finally, test your backups and ensure they are current. A backup is only good if you can recover current data from it. You know how much your data changes and how often, so ensure your most recent backup omits only what you are willing to lose.
